Kimberly Richardson, J.D.
Associate Professor of Law

Kimberly Richardson is an attorney with over 15 years of experience helping large complex organizations reduce legal, ethical and financial risks. She has presented at various conferences and forums on subjects including labor and employment law, occupational health and safety, the role of in-house counsel and on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Richardson began her legal career at Varnum Law (Grand Rapids, MI) and later moved to the federal Government with the U.S. Postal Service and the Department of Commerce where she was lead counsel for large labor and employment litigation. At the Postal Service, Richardson oversaw the service’s national health and safety legal practice which covered over 36,000 facilities and 500,000 employees. She was also the lead labor attorney for collective bargaining negotiations with the postal union.

Richardson served as Senior Counsel at DuPont from 2014-2022. During that time, she was the sole attorney responsible for overseeing legal issues related to health, safety and security for operations worldwide. At DuPont, she counseled all levels of leadership on regulatory matters and risk management while managing outside counsel. Additional experience at DuPont included advising multiple merger and acquisition teams on multi-billion-dollar projects. Richardson also successfully managed external and regulatory investigations and managed crises in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil and South Korea.

Most recently, Richardson was senior corporate counsel at Amazon Web Services where she led a team of 10 health and safety attorneys in the U.S., Singapore and London.

Professor Richardson presently serves on the Delaware Chapter Advisory Board of the National Alliance for Mental Illness and on the legal steering committee of the National Safety Council Legal Issues Network.

She is graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A. Mathematics) and earned her Juris Doctorate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law. Richardson’s bar admissions include Michigan, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court (W.D. Mich.) and the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.
