Admissions

We have submitted our application for provisional approval to the ABA. We expect to hear the ABA’s decision in March. That means if you apply and are admitted to WilmU Law, you will know if we are ABA approved before the commitment deadline. We encourage you to investigate what we have to offer.

Wilmington University School of Law’s J.D. program offers a new approach to legal education, one that is centered on the student and is committed to breaking down barriers to the legal profession. We’re building something different at WilmU Law, and we seek energized students who are excited to be active participants in their legal education.

What makes WilmU Law different?

Curriculum focused on actual legal skills and required bar tested subjects.

Assessments that not only test substantive knowledge and legal reasoning but also introduce students to the structure of the bar exam.

An externship program that provides students with extensive opportunities to gain experience working in courts, law offices and in public service agencies.

Electives that are selected and offered with the input of our students to better meet their expressed needs.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is focused on teaching students lawyering skills and providing them the subject-matter tested on the bar exam.  We teach students how to read, analyze, research and write like a lawyer.  We teach these skills across our curriculum but particularly in our three required writing courses.  Bar-test subject-matter is covered in our required and elective substantive law courses  We believe that gaining knowledge of the bar-tested subjects as part of law school, instead of learning the subject in bar-prep class, is the better way to prepare our students.  Learn more about our curriculum.

Assessments

When and how students are assessed (tested) is important.  WilmU Law students are assessed at 5 weeks, 10 weeks, and at 15 weeks (final exam).  We assess via three different assessment components; Bar-like essays, bar-like multiple choice, and traditional law school essays.  Learn more about our assessment model.

Externships

Taking the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom and putting them into practice is probably the most valuable part of a legal education.  WilmU Law students can earn up to 15 credits through externships.  Our externship office will place students in opportunities within our legal community (Delaware, Southeastern PA, Southern NJ, and Northern MD) and will assist students to find opportunities in other jurisdictions.

Students wishing to practice in Delaware after graduation will be able to complete the 12 week Delaware clerkship requirement while in law school.  Learn more about externships.

Cost of Attendance

Full-time student tuition is approximately $24,000 per year. Part-time tuition is approximately $18,000 per year. The entire J.D. program (three years full-time/four years part-time) is $72,068. That tuition rate is guaranteed for the entire time a student is enrolled.  Learn more about our cost of attendance.
