Marie Maney, J.D.
Visiting Professor of Legal Practice

Marie A. Maney is a Visiting Professor of Practice at Wilmington University Farnan School of Law, where she teaches Legal Writing I, Legal Writing II, and Wills, Trusts & Estates. A legal educator and former practicing attorney with nearly three decades of experience, Professor Maney brings substantial knowledge of estate planning and administration, elder law, civil litigation, and real estate to the classroom. Her student-centered teaching approach emphasizes practical exercises, realistic legal scenarios, and individualized feedback to strengthen students’ critical thinking, legal analysis, professional judgment, and practice-ready writing skills.

Before joining the Farnan School of Law, Professor Maney taught undergraduate and graduate students at Saint Joseph’s University, Peirce College, and Camden County College in traditional and online learning environments. Her courses have included legal writing and research, estate law, family law, contracts, torts, real estate law, legal technology, business law, and public speaking. Across these subjects, she connects legal principles with real-world applications and encourages students to develop the analytical and communication skills needed for professional practice.

Professor Maney’s legal career includes extensive work in estate planning, probate and estate administration, guardianship matters, elder law, and estate litigation. She has advised clients on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, asset protection, and related planning strategies. Earlier in her career, she represented clients in a wide range of civil litigation matters, including employment disputes, professional liability, products liability, construction defects, and premises liability. She has also presented educational programs for social workers, senior citizens, and assisted-living communities on estate planning, Medicaid misconceptions, and senior scams.

Professor Maney earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Widener University School of Law and her bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy from the University of Scranton. Her professional service includes work as a pardon coach with Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity and editorial roles with the Atlantic Law Journal.
