T. Justin Chapman, J.D.
Visiting Professor of Legal Practice
Justin Chapman brings nearly two decades of experience as an attorney, legal writer, and educator to the Farnan School of Law. Before joining the faculty as a Visiting Professor, he taught legal research and writing and transactional skills at Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law and developed a wide-ranging legal practice that included complex litigation, transactional work, entertainment law, insurance coverage, and business counseling. His experience includes serving as a partner at a national litigation firm, operating a solo practice, and working as an associate and of counsel at regional law firms.
Recognized by Best Lawyers in America as “One to Watch” in 2026, Professor Chapman was also selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2014, 2016, and 2017. Although a graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, Justin is a proud “Philadelphia lawyer,” who loves his city. Across his career, he has remained committed to public service, having previously provided pro bono representation through organizations including Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, the Homeless Advocacy Project, and Philadelphia VIP. He has also helped West Philadelphia families fix “tangled title.”
At the Farnan School of Law, Professor Chapman teaches Legal Research & Writing I and II, Civil Procedure, Sports and Entertainment Law, and Advanced Legal Analysis. His teaching emphasizes practical lawyering, professional judgment, and the ability to apply legal doctrine effectively in real-world settings. He views his role as extending beyond the classroom, mentoring students as they navigate law school, develop their professional identities, and build the skills and confidence needed for meaningful legal careers.
Outside the classroom, he is interested in film, television, music, sports, and comedy. He also coaches youth basketball in West Philadelphia.
