New Student Orientation

Welcome to WilmU Law!

Congratulations! We are excited to meet YOU at Wilmington University School of Law. Orientation serves as an introduction to your law school experience, acquainting you with the classroom, library, faculty, staff, and other members of the Wilmington legal community.

Admitted Student Events

Orientation 2025 will take place Monday, August 11 through Wednesday, August 13 at the School of Law, located at the Brandywine Campus. Events take place in the late afternoon and evening from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each night. Dinner will be provided. All incoming students are expected to participate in the full orientation program. Additional required activities will be completed virtually through Canvas and AccessLex.

Day Description

Monday, August 11 

Night 1: Joining the Legal Community

Obtain ID Cards, take professional headshot photos, find your classroom(s), and enjoy dinner with faculty to lead off the night. Hear about the importance of the Honor Code and professionalism basics for navigating a year ahead. Tonight's presentations will guide you in developing your professional image in the legal community. The Honor Code Oath will be administered and a incoming class photo will be taken.

Tuesday, August 12 

 Night 2: Resources & Support Systems for 1L Students

Campus representatives will be available during the Student Services Fair for individual questions and introductions. Enjoy dinner and make connections with your fellow incoming students. Our presentations will provide background on the many resources and support tools available to students for academic, financial, accessibility, health and safety needs. .

Wednesday, August 13 

Night 3: Learning from Others' Experiences

Enjoy an hearing from a variety of members in the legal community as you embark on your journey through law school. Hear advice and perspectives from the Law School Advisory Board, young lawyers, current students, and distinguished faculty about the challenges you may face and how to navigate them successfully.

Enrollment Begins:

All 1L students who have completed pre-registration requirements will be enrolled in late June. Check your email during June for details. Students admitted after initial registration will be enrolled on a rolling basis.

Laptop Requirement:

All incoming students are required to have a laptop computer. For details on the laptop minimum specifications, see Laptop Requirement.

Financial Literacy Requirement:

Max is by AccessLex® the free personal finance program created just for law students. Max provides quick and easy to understand lessons, in-person and online learning options, and one-on-one financial coaching from accredited financial counselors. Max also gives you access to a law school scholarship database.  Completing Max lessons not only helps you make a financial plan for law school, completing lessons and attending events also enters you into drawings for scholarships. You will need to create an account in the AskEdna learning platform. After creating your account, click on the Max banner. From there navigate to "Complete Your Max Lessons" to start the 1L financial foundations course.

JDEdge by AccessLex:

Participate in the asynchronous online introduction to law school course during the summer. Details are available here.  All students are highly encouraged to complete modules 1 and 2 prior to orientation in August. See JDEdge Access Instructions.

Textbooks:

Textbook and course materials will be available in the Campus Store at Brandywine in August.  Syllabi will be available on your Canvas courses the first week of August. 

University ID Card:

Obtain your WilmU ID, which can be issued following your class registration. A University ID card is required to be prominently displayed at all WilmU locations. Visit the Security Desk at the Brandywine Campus to obtain your card.
