Before You Start Classes
Law school is extremely challenging and incredibly rewarding. Starting law school can be stressful. Two of the most stressful components of starting law school are finances and preparing to be a law student. Fortunately, there are some tools to help.
Finances
Understanding your financial aid package is crucial to your success. Loan types, how much money to borrow, and loan repayment can be confusing. Review the student loan literacy guide to get an explanation of loan types.
Creating a budget for yourself is also very helpful. Fortunately, there is a tool to help you understand budgeting and people you can talk to. Wilmington University School of Law has partnered AccessLex to provide you with resources.
Max is by AccessLex® the free personal finance program created just for law students. Max provides quick and easy to understand lessons, in-person and online learning options, and one-on-one financial coaching from accredited financial counselors. Max also gives you access to a law school scholarship database. Completing Max lessons not only helps you make a financial plan for law school, completing lessons and attending events also enters you into drawings for scholarships.
You will need to create an account in the AskEdna learning platform. After creating your account, click on the Max banner. From there navigate to "Complete Your Max Lessons" to start the 1L financial foundations course.
Preparing For the First Day of Class
Knowing what to expect and being prepared for the start of classes can be crucial for success. There are skills you can begin to develop over the summer that will help when classes start.
JDEdge by AccessLex® is a program offered free of charge to AccessLex member law schools that provides law school preparation and critical skills-building to incoming law students.
All incoming students are highly encouraged to complete modules 1 and 2 before orientation. See JDEdge Access Instructions.
