Assessment

How, when and how often students are tested is very important to overall student success.  WilmU Law students are tested using different formats and at multiple times throughout the semester.

Multiple Assessments

The only measure of a student’s success should not be how well they perform on the final exam.  Multiple assessments are better way to measure success. That’s why we assess students three times a semester in each of their substantive law courses. Assessments occur at 5 weeks, 10 weeks and 15 weeks (Final exam). The timing of the assessment allow faculty to provide early feedback and support to students. The frequency allows students multiple opportunities to show they are mastering the concepts presented in the courses.

Multiple Formats

Our faculty assess students using three different formats. Bar-like essays, bar-like multiple choice, and traditional law school essays. The bar-like components not only test substantive knowledge and legal reasoning but help students build familiarity with the format of the bar exam. The traditional law school essays allow our faculty to test students on a wide range of the law as well as determine how students can spot legal issues, restate the rules, apply the rules to facts and make legal arguments. It is important to note that we do not teach to the bar exam. We test like the bar exam.
